Here is another daily duty. We really need to pray with this one at least once a day.

"Christian Scientists, be a law to yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or awake." (S&H 442)

I am sure it is no coincidence that Mrs. Eddy puts this at the conclusion of her chapter in Science and Health about Christian Science practice. How often are we alert to this? It is not to be made real or as something to be afraid of. The next chapter, Teaching Christian Science, defines mental malpractice for us.

"All mental malpractice arises from ignorance or malice aforethought. It is the injurious action of one mortal mind controlling another from wrong motives, and it is practiced either with a mistaken or a wicked purpose." (S&H 451)

Atop that same page she gives another directive.

"Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate." That is a reference to Paul's letter to the church in Corinth.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you." (II Corinthians 6:17.)  Dummelow's commentary of the Bible says, "Do not become entangled in alliances of any kind with unbelievers to your spiritual hurt.

Choosing to practice our religion faithfully in this time when the world is so focused on the medical can lead to feeling malice from those who seem to be controlled by fear. They need our compassion most.

Malpractive is improper or unethical conduct. We should protect ourselves from this by knowing it cannot touch us day or night. Nor can we be influenced to practice it against others ourselves. Our best guideline is part of the Sermon on the Mount which is the Golden Rule.  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Practice only expressing love.
