February 4, 2021 Daily duties Part 1
Good morning. There is a lovely move to acknowledge and thank our service men and women. We are so grateful for your service! When I thanked one soldier I saw in the supermarket he said, "Only doing my duty". The dictionary defines 'duty' as a moral obligation. Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science and the author of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures has pointed out some duties. They are important enough to be observed on a daily basis. So, I recently refreshed my set of 4X6 note cards where I had printed them out. It is surprising how lots of suggestions come to mind to prevent praying with these each day. All the more reason to be diligent in obeying this duty.
Here is the first one I pray with to start my day.
"One thing I have greatly desired, and again earnestly request, namely, that Christian Scientists, here and elsewhere, pray daily for themselves; not verbally, nor on bended knee, but mentally, meekly, and importunately. When a hungry heart petitions the divine Father-Mother God for bread, it is not given a stone, - but more grace, obedience, and love. If this heart, humble and trustful, faithfully asks divine Love to feed it with the bread of heaven, health, holiness, it will be conformed to a fitness to recieve the answer to its desire; and great growth in Christian Science will follow, - even that joy which one's own in another's good."
Miscellaneous Writings p.127
there's so much to pray with within this duty. How often we pray for others but do not take the time to pray for ourselves. This reminds me to ask divine Love to help my express more grace and love across the day. I ask this humbly, trusting my Father to help me conform to His will. The Bible tells us to ask and we will receive., But we must be willing to ask for the right things and trust that if they are good for us, God will grant them. I also want to find joy in blessing others and honestly praying for good to be evident in their day.
So, I will be rereading this duty over the course of today with an expectation of good and feeling joyful for this guidance.
