How Elisha helped a woman and her children in need

there is a wonderful story in II Kings that asks and answers questions about how God, divine Love, meets our every human need. The woman was a widow with two sons. When her husband, a follower of Elisha's died, she was left with debts she could not pay. At that time it was the custom that both she and her sons could be taken as slaves to work off the debt. She goes to Elisha for help. Here are some questions: What does Elisha say to her? 1. I will lend you the money. 2. Sorry, I can't do anything. 3. What do you have in the house? The answer is number 3. He begins to turn her thought from panic and lack to an answer that will meet the need. And answer she can provide. What does she say to him? 1. What, are you kidding? 2. If I had something I wouldn't be asking you for help. 3. There is only a pot of oil. The answer is number 3. She did have something in the house. What does he tell her to do with the pot of oil? 1. Good luck with that. 2. make us something to eat. 3. Go bo...

recognize your true inheritance

Just having the best morning working with our Christian Science Bible Lesson on substance and today noticing the references to true inheritance. There is the story of Daniel and his 3 friends as captives in Babylon. The King wanted all the brightest children to have special priviledges for a span of 3 years and then, if they proved worthy, to serve him. Part of that was to eat the meat reserved for the king and to drink some of his wine. Daniel felt those things were tainted and unclean as they were part of the sacrifices to their god. He asked that he and his friends be just served porridge and given water to drink. The eunuch fears they will look malnourished and he would be punished but agrees to a 10 day trial. They pass with flying colors. Daniel knew his rights as a child of the one true God and served Him faithfully. That protected him. Another story in the lesson is a parable Jesus told ,often called the prodigal son.  A father had 2 sons and the younger, a bit wild a...

treasures

As i read the Lesson this morning, the word 'treasure' popped up several times. The subject of this Bible Lesson is Substance so I looked up the definition of treasure. It can be a noun or a verb. treasure = accumulated or precious possessions  treasure = to accumulate and store away for future use. I've been studying Christian Science for 5 decades and have accumulated many spiritual treasures in wonderful insights to the Scriptures and many healings. These are treasures that build up giving me confidence in this wonderful religion. I am grateful every day to those who nurtured me in my spiritual journey and love the opportunities God has given me to nurture others on this walk. God promises that He will 'cause those that love me to inherit substance and I will fill their treasures. Proverbs 20:21 My hymn today is #249 Our gratitude is riches, complaint is poverty... True gladness is the treasure that grateful hearts will hold. So much to treasure and give thanks for ...

sing a new song

This week's Bible Lesson is about substance. The Golden Text reminds us to acknowldegethe good things God has done and be glad. Let's not rehash what we think has gone wrong or seems to be wrong now. Mrs. Eddy calls that ruminating which means to turn a matter over and over in the mind, to 'chew the cud' as it were. Time to sing a new song. Our periodicals have featured testimonies of healing for well over a century. The testifiers took time to express their gratitude by sending those in and often reading about those experiences brings further healings for others. Our churches offer a mid-week testimony meeting every Wednesday and it is a welcome hour for refreshment. I am always grateful for those who tell about how they prayed, using Christian Science, and were healed. I have given a few of those myself. But there is no time like the present to take a good look at how I am thanking God on a daily basis for the good in my life. Not all the healings came quickly and th...

Incontrovertible

march 5, 2021 sorry about missing some entries. Hopefully, things will go better now. Today I am remembering visiting a fun house and alternately being amused and horrified by the images in the distorted mirrors.  While some were actually funny, others were definitely not how I how wanted to see myself or be seen by others. But even then I realized that I was not looking at the true reflection One of the benefits of studying Christian Science to getting a clearer understanding of my true self, the self created and maintained by my Father Mother God. He/She madde me is His/Her own image and likeness according to Scripture. That creation has never been undone or tampered with, no distortion. Mrs. Eddy writes, "The great truth in the Science of being, that the real man was, is, and ever shall be perfect, is incontrovertible; for if man is the image, reflection, of God, he is neither inverted nor subverted, but upright and Godlike. incontrovertible means that it is impossible to ...
