sing a new song

This week's Bible Lesson is about substance. The Golden Text reminds us to acknowldegethe good things God has done and be glad. Let's not rehash what we think has gone wrong or seems to be wrong now. Mrs. Eddy calls that ruminating which means to turn a matter over and over in the mind, to 'chew the cud' as it were. Time to sing a new song. Our periodicals have featured testimonies of healing for well over a century. The testifiers took time to express their gratitude by sending those in and often reading about those experiences brings further healings for others. Our churches offer a mid-week testimony meeting every Wednesday and it is a welcome hour for refreshment. I am always grateful for those who tell about how they prayed, using Christian Science, and were healed. I have given a few of those myself.

But there is no time like the present to take a good look at how I am thanking God on a daily basis for the good in my life. Not all the healings came quickly and then it is tempting to get a bit repetitious while asking for help, going over and over a problem, and then wondering why the healing has not yet taken place. That's a good time to 'sing a new song', just stop and be grateful for the good already experienced, because God is good and He loves all of His children. From my earliest years I thought of Him as the Good Shepherd and myself as one of His sheep, watched over, cared for and protected. The shepherd devotes his day to making sure he has led them to good pastures where they can rest and feed in safety. God is doing that for me.  He guards them from any harm. God is doing that for me. He guides them home so they can sleep in peace. He does that for me too.

I will sing that song all day...and be glad.
